日本隊以8比2擊敗委內瑞拉，成為第2屆IBAF世界盃少棒錦標賽的季軍，突破上屆第5名成績，總教練前橋喜佐男表示，「很想跟中華隊打冠軍戰，可惜了，因為先前預賽被我們擊敗，他們一定很想復仇。」
日本隊在四強戰敗給美國，只能和委內瑞拉爭奪季軍，比賽過程中出現不少次觸身球，包括菊田擴和遭爆頭、植田太陽兩度被擊中小腿。
「好幾位選手被打到，我當然不能示弱，要讓氣勢變高昂，上前抗議後裁判也知道，讓委內瑞拉換投手。」前橋說。
前橋也說，這次日本代表隊的平均身形較其他國家嬌小，所以他們主打快腿，以腳程速度取勝。
對於這次來台比賽，總教練前橋說：「和台灣比賽的那一場印象最深刻，雙方球員都很拚命，委內瑞拉和美國雖然很強，但打球的過程就比較粗暴，希望下次有機會能和中華隊再打一次。」
