馬英九總統今（21）日返國後直奔中央災害應變中心視察。總統表示，潭美颱風來襲，路徑十分詭異，不能掉以輕心，呼籲國人儘量不要在颱風天出門。
馬總統說，潭美一直近似滯留，現在速度加快，無論如何，是否變成中度颱風，都要非常謹慎，不能掉以輕心。
總統表示，潭美遇到大潮，海水倒灌機會增加，尤其是北北基和中部地區，應該特別提高警覺；在這階段還不會有什麼災害發生，要先做好該做的預防性工作，包括撤離在內。
他也指出，過去颱風經驗，民眾發生意外，都是因為在颱風天出門，要做到完全不出門很難，但還是應該多加宣導，多一分準備，少一分損失。不管颱風將來發展如何，都應做好準備。
