4日投票的美國國會期中選舉結果對美國經濟舉足輕重，關係最大的是參院由哪個黨主控。美國經濟目前正在穩定成長，主因是國會和白宮的預算戰爭「停戰」。過去幾年的預算戰爭造成美國政府停擺，而且美國政府賴債的幽靈抬頭。如果戰爭重演，將傷害美國經濟。觀察家說，參院如果繼續握在民主黨手裡，停戰將會繼續，但參院如果落到共和黨手裡，形成共和黨主控兩院，共和黨將會壯大膽子，加強對白宮的衝突，嚴重的話，將造成企業和消費者動彈不得。
