中央氣象局今（19）日表示，輕颱潭美將開始逆時針方向前進，撲向台灣北部。出訪南美洲及加勒比海五友邦的總統馬英九已決定提前返國坐鎮，預計台北時間周三上午6時半返抵國門。
馬總統原本預定回程過境美國洛杉磯，22日下午2時返台。
今日上午10時於友邦聖克里斯多福及尼維斯下榻飯店與隨行記者茶敘，記者詢問是否提前返國坐鎮，總統回應說，「出訪前就開始注意颱風的消息，出訪的每一天都在跟國內的聯絡，瞭解颱風的動態，目前還在進行評估當中，不排除任何可能性」。
茶敘結束後，約在11時多，決定過境美國洛杉磯時間縮短為6小時，周三上午6時半返抵國門。
