遠東銀行16日召開股東臨時會，會中通過50億元增資案，增資後總資產規模可望達6000億元，朝中大型銀行規模經濟邁進。遠東集團董事長徐旭東會後受訪時更表示，立法院倒閣案都結束了，什麼都過去了，美國政府債務上限問題只是短暫因素，一定會過去的，大家要樂觀看待，經濟一定會好。
遠東銀表示，增資目的主要是這幾年遠銀資產成長很快，超越同業平均，資本也需成長，這次增資計畫預定於年底前完成募集，資本適足率(BIS)可提高至11.68%，第一類資本適足率提高至8.98%，足以強化資本結構、提升淨值、充實營運資金，擴大經營規模。
由於外傳遠東銀將參股重慶商銀，這次增資案是否與參股陸銀有關？徐旭東僅說，大家愛怎麼寫就怎麼寫，沒必要每件事都向股東報告，因為遠東銀在成長，放款規模擴大了，所以就需要增資，這沒什麼大不了。對於有關大陸布局，徐旭東僅低調說，持續進行中。
至於對未來景氣的看法，徐旭東認為，倒閣案等事件都過去了，美國政府債務上限問題只是短暫因素，一定會過去，今年還有幾個月，大家努力一下，經濟絕對不止這樣，要樂觀一點，不要太悲觀，經濟一定會好。
除了這次的增資案，遠東銀也在今年6月股東常會通過新台幣100億元私募案，以利引進策略投資人。對於此案的進度，遠東銀總經理洪信德說，這個案子有如鴨子划水，持續進行中。
